Academic Editing

  • Are you a student or early career scholar in a humanities subject?

  • Do you want to improve your papers and dissertations, or strengthen your research proposal?

  • Are you applying for a (post)graduate programme and want extra insight into academia?

If you answered yes to any of the above, I can help!

I am a freelance editor and have a PhD and Masters in art history from the University of St Andrews, where I also tutored and lectured undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have seven years' experience offering constructive feedback on essays, journal articles, dissertations, funding applications, and research proposals, and can also provide coaching in humanities skills.

I've published three peer-reviewed articles (two of those during my PhD), edited an academic journal, and spoken at conferences across Europe. I've researched at archives and libraries throughout the UK and Italy. I did my undergraduate degree in History of Art & Architecture from Boston University, as well as several study abroad programmes, so I can help you switch between American and British academic writing styles, and network across continents and disciplines.

Academia can be an overwhelming place. I know what it's like to be swamped with deadlines, and to feel the pressure of fierce competition. I'll provide friendly feedback and advice to help you polish your writing, strengthen your arguments, and guide you on your academic journey.

Meredith is one of those rare people who is able to build bridges between her academic, fiction, and educational work. She is not only a highly skilled and compelling academic, but is a sharp editor and teacher. I worked closely with her to develop an academic-skills building course for university students at St Andrews, where she was instrumental in getting the project off the ground, developing content, and ensuring it positively impacted the students. She is able to help others see where they need to grow as a researcher and writer, and guide them in an impactful way. —Jennifer Whitty, Content Developer, FIFA World Football Museum
